In our time, we are losing our capacity to make sense of the world. Sense-making permits people to identify their values and strive to realize them in the world. In this paper, I argue that ubiquitous digital media technologies restrict our ability to make sense of the world and thus limit our power to protect what we value in the near and long term future. We must safeguard sense-making by redesigning digital media platforms and changing the way we use them in our daily lives.
